Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear mismatched, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could assist the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Planners tables.

Audiences can look forward to learning which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
