Together Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

Here's a test for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy horror films: Settle in with your significant other and stream Together. The 2025 indie hit recently had its streaming debut on the Hulu service. On the surface, it could look like conventional biological terror, but within Together exists a deep contemplation about our choices in loving our partners.

An Introductory Film Exploring Partnership Complexities

Together represents the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have been together for ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, the two stars bring a unique chemistry to their roles, expertly portraying both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The narrative begins when the couple relocate from the metropolis to the countryside for her career. A familiar plot device, of course, but that’s mostly where the cliches conclude. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their new home, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim fall into an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a strange force starts to affect the couple. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding simple connection.

The entire film is a methodically building horror experience, blending bits of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but tastefully done) body horror, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes during something disturbing). The director skillfully blends these components expertly and presents them in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is only Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is deteriorating due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and far away from his support system. He is terrified of the idea of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together never makes one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

The couple confront the type of challenges that arise in any relationship a decade in. Deep down, they still love one another. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these fears of codependency and totally devoting oneself to another person, the allegory avoids being overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a perfect parallel to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in harmony.

A Debated Finale

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that unattached audience members have seen the movie as a powerful case for staying single. On the other hand, some couples who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own response could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the ending plant anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your significant other and say, “I understand that choice”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can experience today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform at present.
